Description

Primary-schooler Shuyang builds a 20,000mAh fully transparent cyberpunk power bank for a neighbor (3905 likes): materials are a board / shell / battery tabs / 6 × 18650; AWithZ spot welder for the tabs, welds the negatives, welds the leads, flattens the cells, solders the red and black leads to the board, fits the shell and screws, peels the film; 22.5W PD fast charge lights up; comments correct him — no fish paper on the positives is unsafe, keep the positive weld inward or a missed weld can blow the tab, and strap the cells

‘Shuyang’s got a job’ — a neighbor asked him to build a power bank and the materials are in: power-bank board, shell (transparent yellow), battery tabs (nickel strip), cells (6 × 18650, bought earlier). Out comes the AWithZ ‘touch welder’ (spot welder) and he starts welding the tabs; welds the negatives; welds the leads; flattens the cells out (two groups of 3P?); solders the red and black leads to the board; fits the shell and screws; shell on, see whether it charges: it lights up, and it’s fast charge; peel the film, slip the sleeve on, peel the outer film, fit the lid, screws in, done; detail shots, the transparency looks great, cyberpunk style; charge test again, fast charging, the board he bought is 22.5W PD; ‘Dad, the power bank’s yours now.’ Comments (823): fish-paper rings on the positives, fish paper under the folds, strap the cells, keep the positive weld inward — a missed weld can blow the tab (9); no fish paper on the positives is unsafe (3, creator: the cells have 2 layers of insulation of their own); makes me want a spot welder (3); same UF20B, press the pen down a bit harder before triggering, fewer sparks and nicer welds; better to buy a CUKTECH, 50-odd yuan for 20,000mAh at 55W (it’s for hands-on practice); this kind of board leaks and starves the cells after two months unused; 22.5W is slow charging.

Outcome

GoalBuild a 20,000mAh transparent power bank for a neighbor
Build6 × 18650 + 22.5W PD board + transparent shell
ResultCased and finished, 22.5W fast charge lights up · verified on camera: Charging display shows 22.5W fast charge at 96–106s and 139–149s

Steps5 steps · click a frame to jump

  1. 1. Taking the job; materials: board, shell, tabs, 6 cells

The neighbor asked for a power bank and the materials are all in; board, shell, tabs, cells (bought earlier).

    00:00 – 00:16
  2. 2. AWithZ spot welder for the tabs; weld the negatives; weld the leads

Out comes the AWithZ touch welder and he starts welding the tabs; welds the negatives; then welds the leads.

    00:16 – 01:02
  3. 3. Flatten the cells; solder the red and black leads to the board; fit the shell and screws

Flatten the cells out; solder the red lead to the board; then the black lead; put the shell on and do up the screws; start casing.

    01:10 – 01:33
  4. 4. Charge test: lights up, fast charge; peel film, sleeve on, lid on, screws in

Assembled, see whether it charges, it lights up and it’s fast charge; peel the film; slip the sleeve on; peel the outer film; fit the lid, screws in.

    01:36 – 02:02
  5. 5. Finished details: transparent cyberpunk; 22.5W PD fast charge; handed to Dad

Finished detail shots, transparent and pretty, cyberpunk; fast-charge test again, the board is 22.5W PD; Dad, the power bank’s yours now; see you next time.

    02:07 – 02:38

Creator’s tips

  • Comments: fish-paper rings on the positives, fish paper under the folds, strap the cells, keep the positive weld inward so a missed weld can’t blow the tab
  • Comments: on the UF20B press the pen down firmly before triggering, fewer sparks and nicer welds

Pitfalls

  • No fish paper on the positives (safety dispute)
  • Comments: this kind of board leaks and starves the cells after two months unused

Li-ion safety

  • A child operating a spot welder and Li-ion cells; missing positive-end insulation flagged by several comments
DIY lithium packs can catch fire: check cells for shorts before welding, always add a BMS, never skip insulation and fusing on high-current builds.

No fish paper on the positive end, unsafe 3
Not a big problem, the cell itself has 2 layers of insulation (creator)
Better to buy a CUKTECH, ¥50-odd for 20,000mAh 55W with 3C

Only thing to say is it gives a kid a chance to build something; better to buy a CUKTECH, ¥50-odd gets you the 20,000mAh CP25 with 55W fast charge, built-in cable and 3C certification; this hand-made one surely has no 3C and low power, and materials alone probably cost more than ¥50

Positive end: fish-paper ring. Under the folds: fish paper. Best to strap the cells together. When spot welding, keep the positive weld inward as much as possible, a missed weld can blow the strip.

Listen, kid, let's not do this one, this kind leaks way too badly. 100% charged and two months unused it's dead, don't ask me how I know

Same AWithZ UF20B spot welder. With this welder, use a bit of force when welding. Press the pen down firmly and trigger. That way there's less sparking and the welds look very nice
